Mike Spatola Earns Top Tens at Hartford and Fairbury
(June 23, 2019) Mike Spatola III and his #89 team headed to Hartford Speedway in Hartford, Michigan and Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on June 21-22 for a pair of Super Late Model special events. On Friday night in a $4,000 to win American Ethanol Late Model Tour (AELMT) showdown at Hartford, Mike placed seventh in his heat race and was involved in an early wreck in the 40-lapper before salvaging a steady ninth place feature performance out of the evening. At FALS on Saturday, the DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour rolled into Fairbury and a $10,000 top prize was on the line. "Opie" timed in third quickest in Group A during qualifying, ran second in his heat race, and eventually slipped to a tenth place effort in the 50-lap main event after a mid race skirmish left him with a flat left front tire. Spatola Nabs Top Ten in Summer Nationals Opener at Kankakee
(June 16, 2019) The Spatola Racing team kicked off what was supposed to be a busy three-race weekend on Thursday night, June 13 in the DIRTcar Summer Nationals lid lifter at Kankakee County Speedway in Kankakee, Illinois. Mike Spatola III timed in fourth fastest in his group during qualifying and ran second in his stacked heat race before winding up eighth in the final finishing order of the $5,000 to win headliner. A $10,000 top prize was then up for grabs on the "Hell Tour" on Friday evening at Sycamore Speedway in Maple Park, Illinois and Mike grabbed the third transfer spot through his heat race before Mother Nature intervened and postponed the feature event to July 8. Saturday's action was also wiped out by inclement weather, as races at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois and Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois both rained out. (June 2, 2019) The Spatola Racing team entered one lone event over the weekend, as they rolled into Fairbury American Legion Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois on Saturday evening, June 1. A weekly Super Late Model show was held at FALS and a $2,500 top prize was on the line. Mike Spatola III earned Fast Time honors for his quick lap during qualifying and later placed third in his heat race. After starting the 'FALS Cup' headliner from the inside of the fourth row, "Opie" worked his way past a trio of racecars on his way to a strong fourth place effort behind only victor Ryan Unzicker, Mckay Wenger, and Kevin Weaver! Mike Spatola III Eighth at Farmer City; Climbs to Fourth at FALS
(May 26, 2019) Mike Spatola III and his #89 team were back in the pit area at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois and Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on May 24-25. On Friday night in a $1,000 to win weekly program at Farmer City, Mike timed in eleventh quickest in qualifying, ran sixth in his heat race, and later climbed to eighth in the headliner. At FALS in a $3,000 to win special on Saturday evening, "Opie" laid down the eleventh fastest lap in time trials and ran third in his heat race prior to vaulting up to fourth in the feature event. He trailed only winner Brian Shirley, Gordy Gundaker, and Ryan Unzicker at the unfurling of the checkered flag. Spatola Runner-Up in Weekend Stops at Farmer City & FALS!
(May 19, 2019) The Spatola Racing team invaded both Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois and Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois for a pair of weekly shows on May 17-18. On Friday night in a $1,000 to win program at FCR, Mike Spatola III earned Fast Time honors during qualifying, finished second in his heat race, and later advanced up to second in the A-Main to trail only victor Allen Weisser. (May 12, 2019) With Saturday's annual 'FALS Frenzy' at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois succumbing to persistent afternoon rain showers, the #89 team entered one lone event over the May 10-11 weekend on Friday evening at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois. A $10,000 top prize was on the line in the 'Farmer City 74' and a whopping 52 entrants piled into the pit area at the 1/4-mile fairgrounds facility. Mike Spatola III laid down the seventh fastest time in Group B during qualifying and later placed fourth in his loaded heat race. Mike stopped the clock third fastest overall during qualifying prior to placing third in his stacked heat race. After starting the 30-lap feature event from the inside of the sixth row, Mike was able to move up inside of the top ten - eventually guiding his #89 Rocket XR1 car to a steady ninth place showing. (April 27, 2019) The Spatola Racing team made a stop to Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois on Friday night, April 26 for a $1,000 to win weekly Super Late Model program. Mike Spatola III started red hot, as he set Fast Time in qualifying and won his heat race to earn the pole position for the main event. Unfortunately, Mike slipped over the banking early in the feature distance and was forced to rebound from the tail to salvage an eighth place showing. (April 14, 2019) Mike Spatola III and the #89 Spatola Racing team ventured to Peoria Speedway in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday evening, April 13 for the annual running of the 'Chuck Hamilton Memorial.' The UMP Super Late Model special boasted a $5,000 paycheck and drew a strong 23 car field. Mike laid down the third quickest time in his group during qualifying prior to grabbing the third transfer spot through his heat race. Mike Spatola III Starts '19 Season in Annual Illini 100
(April 7, 2019) Spatola Racing invaded Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois on April 5-6 for the 12th Annual 'Illini 100,' which was once again sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series and kicked off the 2019 season for the #89 team. On Friday night in the $6,000 to win weekend opener at FCR, Mike Spatola III grabbed the fourth and final transfer spot through his loaded heat race and later wound up fourteenth in the finishing order of the 25-lap sprint. At the 1/4-mile oval on Saturday evening in the $15,000 to win grand finale, "Opie" finished eighth in his heat race and sixth in his B-Main, which unfortunately did not transfer him into the 75-lapper that was won by Brandon Sheppard.
