Wild West Shootout Nightly Results from Arizona Speedway
(January 14, 2018) Mike Spatola III, of Manhattan, Illinois, wrapped up the 12th Annual 'Wild West Shootout' tonight at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Arizona and was one of the 45 entrants who signed in to the pit area to vie for the $13,000 windfall in the miniseries finale. Down on power with a smaller motor, Mike clicked off the eighth quickest lap in his group during the qualifying session prior to finishing tenth in both his heat race and his B-Main. Unfortunately, Mike was forced to watch the 50-lap headliner, which was eventually won by Brandon Sheppard.

(January 13, 2018) The penultimate contest of the 2018 'Wild West Shootout' miniseries took place tonight at Arizona Speedway and another $5,000 payday awaited the winner who stood tall in victory lane at the Queen Creek, Arizona facility. Mike Spatola III qualified fifth fastest in his group during the time trial session before running eighth in his heat race due to motor issues and seventh in his B-Main. Unfortunately, "Opie" was not able to crack the starting grid for the 40-lapper, which was eventually won by Ricky Weiss.

A hammer-down racing surface greeted the 45 Super Late Model entrants tonight following a deluge of overnight rain in the Phoenix area. Mike Spatola III stopped the clock fifth quickest in his group during the time trial session prior to running seventh in his loaded heat race. After grabbing the second transfer spot through his B-Main, Mike improved seven spots during the $5,000 to win main event to place twelfth in the final rundown of the 40-lap affair.

(January 6, 2018) The Spatola Racing team lifted the lid to their 2018 campaign tonight in round one of the annual 'Wild West Shootout' at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Arizona. A strong 50 car Super Late Model field assembled in the desert for the $5,000 to win opener. Mike Spatola III clicked off the fastest lap in his group during the qualifying session prior to slipping back to fifth in his stacked heat race. After grabbing the third and final transfer spot through his consolation event, Mike vaulted up to seventeenth in the 40-lap headliner.

Spatola Closes Out 2017 Campaign in Gateway Dirt Nationals
(December 17, 2017) The 2017 racing season concluded for Mike Spatola III from December 14-16 in the 2nd Annual 'Gateway Dirt Nationals' at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, Missouri. A stellar field of 94 Super Late Models converged on downtown St. Louis and things kicked off on Thursday night with qualifying. Mike started his weekend by laying down the thirteenth fastest time in Group B during the time trial session.

On Friday evening at the makeshift 1/5-mile indoor oval, Mike ran fifth in his loaded heat race prior to winning his B-Main. After starting seventeenth in the $5,000 to win preliminary feature, "Opie" scooted past seven competitors during the 20-lap sprint to garner a solid tenth place showing. On Saturday, all eyes were fixated on the 'Gateway Dirt Nationals' grand finale and the whopping $30,000 winner's check. Mike wound up third in his consolation race, but that was unfortunately one mere spot away from a coveted transfer position into the 40-lap headliner, which was eventually won by Bobby Pierce. (October 22, 2017) Mike Spatola III and his #89 team celebrated in victory lane for the seventh time in 2017 on Saturday evening, October 21 at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Indiana! Mike suffered mechanical trouble in qualifying, but later blasted past seven competitors during his heat race to finish second. After starting the 25-lap headliner from the inside of the third row, "Opie" led the final half of the unsanctioned 'Kokomo Klash' to collect the $2,017 top prize. Spatola Suffers Overheating Problems in Chi-Town Showdown...
(October 15, 2017) On October 13-14, the #89 team was in the pit area at the pristine Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois, as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series sanctioned the two-day 'Chi-Town Showdown.' In Friday night's $10,000 to win weekend opener, Mike Spatola III qualified eighteenth fastest overall during time trials, but later climbed up to third in his loaded heat race. Mike had then advanced to seventh in the running order during the 50-lap headliner before overheating woes caused him to retire and settle for a disappointing nineteenth place showing. The 'Chi-Town Showdown' finale on Saturday evening, which was scheduled to boast another $10,000 winner's share, was washed out early in the day due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled. (October 1, 2017) Next up on the racing calendar for the #89 team was a return trip to Peoria Speedway in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday night, September 30, as the 63rd edition of the 'Illinois State Championship' was held and a $5,000 top prize was on the line. Mike Spatola III laid down the quickest lap of the 27 entrants during the qualifying session to earn Fast Time honors prior to scoring a win in heat race action. After starting the 100-lap main event from the outside of the second row, Mike was running in the fourth position when he was forced to pit for a flat left rear tire. On Friday at Peoria after arriving late to the track, Mike Spatola III started at the tail of his heat race prior to running second and later also charged to second in the $2,000 to win feature to finish runner-up behind only victor Ryan Unzicker. At Peoria on Saturday evening in another $2,000 to win battle, Mike won his heat race before knocking down a solid fourth place performance in the main event. (August 18, 2017) Mike Spatola III unloaded both a Super Late Model and a Crate Late Model on Thursday evening, August 17 at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois to thrill all of the race fans at the annual Fairbury Fair. Behind the wheel of his familiar #89 Super Late Model, Mike placed fifth in his heat race and later moved up to eighth in the $1,500 to win headliner. In Crate Late Model action, "Opie" timed in eighth fastest overall during qualifying, ran third in his heat race, and advanced to second in the $500 to win main event to trail only victor Myles Moos. Spatola Grabs Two Top Fives Last Night at Kankakee County Speedway!
(August 12, 2017) The Spatola Racing team returned to action on Friday night, August 11 at Kankakee County Speedway in Kankakee, Illinois, as the MARS Dirt Car Series West division presided over a $3,000 to win shootout. Mike Spatola III knocked down the fifth quickest time of the thirteen entrants during the qualifying session and later ran third in his heat race. The Manhattan, Illinois ace then started the feature event from the inside of the third row before winding up fourth in the final finishing order behind only victor Jason Feger, Rusty Schlenk, and Frank Heckenast, Jr. Mike also drove a Crate Late Model and despite getting a hole in his radiator while leading his heat race, he stormed to the front in the A-Main to finish an impressive runner-up behind only winner Jay Morris! Mike Spatola III Victorious in Make-Up Feature at Fairbury!!!
(August 6, 2017) Mike Spatola III racked up his fifth feature triumph of the 2017 racing season on Saturday evening, August 5 at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois! In the make-up of the June 17 headliner, Mike started from the fourth position and grabbed the top spot around the halfway mark in the rain-postponed race. "Opie" then led the remainder of the distance to pocket the $1,300 top prize over McKay Wenger, Scott Bull, Kevin Weaver, and Scott Schmitt. In the regularly scheduled $1,300 to win weekly show last night at FALS, Mike won his heat race in preliminary action prior to slipping back to sixth in the final rundown of the A-Main.
