Mike Spatola III Sixth in Gateway Dirt Nationals Preliminary Feature
(December 5, 2021) The 2021 racing season for Spatola Racing came to a close on December 3-4 in the 5th Annual 'Gateway Dirt Nationals' at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Things kicked off for Mike Spatola III on Friday night with a $5,000 to win preliminary event at the indoor 1/5-mile oval. Mike stopped the clock thirteenth fastest in Group B during the qualifying session before securing an impressive heat race triumph. After starting the 25-lap prelim feature from the outside of the third row, "Opie" wound up right where he started... in the sixth finishing position.

On Saturday evening, Mike had his sights set on transferring into the season-ending 'Gateway Dirt Nationals,' which shelled out a whopping $30,000 top prize in front of a huge crowd of spectators. The Manhattan, Illinois ace was in a coveted transfer spot during his consolation race for much of the distance until trouble late in the race dropped him to fifth. (October 10, 2021) The Spatola Racing team invaded Fairbury Speedway on October 8-9 for the annual running of 'FALS Frenzy.' The Super Late Model doubleheader was scheduled to kick off on Friday night with a $5,000 to win shootout, but the opener was nixed due to inclement weather. On Saturday evening at the Fairbury, Illinois oval, Mike Spatola III started off his night by finishing third in his loaded heat race. After starting the $15,000 to win headliner from the inside of the sixth row, Mike fought hard for a top ten showing in the caution-free affair. (October 3, 2021) Spatola Racing invaded Sycamore Speedway in Maple Park, Illinois on October 1-2 for a pair of Lucas Oil MLRA Series shootouts known as the 'Harvest Hustle.' In Friday's $7,000 to win weekend opener, Mike Spatola III clicked off the second fastest lap in Group A during the qualifying session prior to securing a heat race triumph. After starting the 50-lap headliner from the inside of the second row and leading laps 16-35, Mike claimed an impressive runner-up performance behind only victor Garrett Alberson. (September 26, 2021) Following a rain-out on Friday night at Spoon River Speedway, the #89 team was back in the pit area at the Banner, Illinois facility on Saturday evening, September 25 for the MARS Racing Series finale. A solid field of Super Late Models showed up at the Land of Lincoln oval to do battle for the $5,000 top prize. Mike Spatola III placed fifth in his heat race and later started the 40-lap feature event from the inside of the eighth row. "Opie" fought valiantly to move forward in the contest, but was eventually paid for a fourteenth place performance. (September 14, 2021) A special Monday night showdown greeted the Spatola Racing team on September 13 at Fairbury Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois. The Castrol FloRacing Night in America Series schedule fired back up last night at FALS and the event dubbed as 'One for the Road' shelled out a $15,000 paycheck. Mike Spatola III timed in fifteenth fastest overall during qualifying, but later grabbed the fifth transfer spot through his stacked heat race. Mike then rolled off from the inside of the eighth row in the 50-lap headliner, but blasted up to as high as second in the running order. The 2021 FALS Track Champion lost a few spots in the waning laps and was eventually credited with a stellar fourth place performance behind only winner Brandon Sheppard, Tanner English, and Bobby Pierce! Mike Spatola III was leading his heat race in preliminary action until a hole in his radiator sent him pitside with only two laps remaining in the prelim. Mike then rebounded from the tail to secure a victory in his B-Main, which locked the Manhattan, Illinois ace into the inside of the ninth row for the start of the $3,000 to win headliner. Spatola Racing Lands Inside of Top Ten During Holiday Weekend
(September 5, 2021) The Labor Day holiday weekend took Spatola Racing to both Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois and Fairbury Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois from September 2-4 for a trio of MARS Racing Series special events. Things kicked off with a pair of $5,000 to win contests at Farmer City. On Thursday night in the opener, Mike Spatola III timed in third fastest overall during Super Late Model qualifying, ran second in his heat race, and later slipped back to seventh in the final finishing order of the 40-lap main event. At FCR on Friday, Mother Nature unfortunately scored the victory, as the event was rained-out during heat race action.

The tripleheader weekend for the #89 team then wrapped up on Saturday evening at Fairbury with the annual running of the 'FALS Super Nationals,' which shelled out a $10,000 top prize. Mike clicked off the ninth quickest lap overall during the qualifying session before grabbing the fourth transfer spot through his heat race. Mike Spatola III Clinches Fairbury Speedway Track Championship!
(August 29, 2021) The Spatola Racing team and driver Mike Spatola III officially clinched the 2021 Super Late Model Track Championship at Fairbury Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on Saturday evening, August 28! Mike set Fast Time in qualifying for the 'Pappy and Bob Allen Memorial' race prior to securing a heat race triumph. After starting the $2,500 to win feature from the pole position, Mike unfortunately suffered a broken lift arm while leading the 30-lapper near the halfway point in the race. The Manhattan, Illinois ace was dropped to fifteenth in the final finishing order, but his consistent season at FALS allowed him to still capture the coveted Track Championship.

On Friday night, August 27, the #89 team snuck over to Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Michigan to compete in an American Late Model Series (ALMS) showdown, which boasted a $5,000 paycheck. Mike timed in seventh fastest in his group during the qualifying session before placing fifth in heat race action. After rolling off from the inside of the fifth row in the 40-lap feature, "Opie" wound up finishing right where he started... in the ninth position. Spatola Battles Stellar Field in Lucrative Prairie Dirt Classic
(August 1, 2021) The #89 team made their way to Fairbury Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on July 30-31 for the annual running of the 'Prairie Dirt Classic.' The World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series once again presided over the mega-event, which drew 74 competitors to vie for the whopping $50,000 payday.

On Friday night at FALS, Mike Spatola III stopped the clock seventeenth fastest in Group B during the qualifying session before winding up eleventh in his $3,000 to win, 25-lap qualifying feature. With a standing-room-only crowd in attendance for Saturday's grand finale, Mike placed eighth in his B-Main, but received a provisional into the 100-lap headliner by virtue of being the track point leader. (July 18, 2021) "Opie" Mike Spatola III and his Spatola Racing team were back in action at Fairbury Speedway in Fairbury, Illinois on Saturday, July 17 for the final tune-up race before the lucrative 'Prairie Dirt Classic' weekend. Mike, who is the current FALS point leader, laid down the third quickest lap overall during Super Late Model qualifying and later picked up a heat race triumph. After starting the 30-lap 'FALS Cup' feature from the inside of the second row, the Manhattan, Illinois ace was part of a terrific race around the 1/4-mile oval. Mike through a slider on leader Mckay Wenger on the final circuit to briefly grab the point, but was beat on the drag race to the checkers by a mere 0.012 seconds in a photo finish. (July 4, 2021) The Spatola Racing team celebrated in victory lane for the seventh time in 2021 on Saturday evening, July 3 at Fairbury Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois! Mike Spatola III clicked off the sixth quickest lap overall during Super Late Model qualifying before securing a popular win in his heat race. After rolling off from the inside of the second row in the weekly 'FALS Cup' headliner, "Opie" grabbed the top spot on lap six and led the remainder of the feature distance to pocket the $2,500 payday ahead of Mckay Wenger, Eric Smith, Myles Moos, and Jeffrey Ledford!

Earlier in the weekend on Friday night, July 2, the #89 team was in action with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals at the pristine Dirt Oval at Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois. A $10,000 payday was up for grabs for the strong field of competitors racing with the "Hell Tour." Mike timed in sixth fastest overall during the qualifying session prior to placing fourth in his loaded heat race.
